How to prepare for job interview

In order to increase your chances to leave a good impression at a job interview and become shortlisted candidate, it is necessary to be well prepared for the interview.

What entails good preparation for a job interview?

  • Collect as much as possible information about the company (via the company’s web page, from relatives, friends …).
  • Think carefully about the key details from your CV and prepare yourself to present those in an adequate manner.
  • On issues that could make you be shown in a bad light (eg. the period when you were out of work, reasons for leaving previous employer), prepare neutral answers.
  • Prepare 2-3 relevant questions for your employer and ask them when you get the chance to do so. The questions should be related to the company’s operations and concrete expectations of the position which you applied for, rather than the salary level. Leave this conversation for later.

It is also important to check in advance the location of the company and how much will it take to get there, in order to do not be late for the interview. Make sure you have a phone number of the person you can contact if, due to unforeseen circumstances, you might be late for the interview.

You came to the interview –now it is crucial to leave the best possible impression on an employer!

  • Keep in mind that the first impression that you leave on someone is very important and difficult to change.
  • Always come 10 minutes earlier.
  • Shake hands firmly with your interviewer, before and after the interview.
  • Pay attention to your posture: Do not dangle on a chair, yawn or look nervous.
  • Do not fold your arms.
